My second visit was their joint public/Unitec library at their campus out in the suburbs. This building is 3 years old, very nice and shared by the public library run by the local council and Unitec.

Random ramblings about polytechnic libraries visited across the pond in New Zealand in April 2009
Were the books and computers kept apart? Looks very spacious.
ReplyDeleteHi Jillian,
ReplyDeletehope you are having a fantastic time. What is a Unitec? Like a Uni and TAFE in one?
How did they run the lab with 100 computers. ie; booking system? In Calgary, they just lined up and they had about the same number.
Have their book collections been reduced? So many questions...!
Hope you are learning heaps!
Cindy.
Roger - Computers are located in groups in two different areas in the library. These ones are in the foyer as you walk in. It was reasonably spacious - although there are mixed feelings about mezzanine floors due noise carrying upstairs.
ReplyDeleteCindy - unitec is its name but I have to say polytechs here are more like universities in some ways as they all teach degrees and post grad courses as well as certificates and diplomas, which means a broader range of learning and research needs.
There is no booking system for the computers! Not sure if there is a time limit or not. They do have a staff person located in the room most of the time but they are not a librarian! - They an IT type person.
Hi Jill,
ReplyDeletethe entrance is a blow out - huge!!! You wouldnt know quite what to expect. Good to see that wooden trolleys still are the best for the job. Well they look like them amongst all that other wood.
